A new path
A day in the office but V and I were the only ones around...feels like a ghost ship. Still have a sore throat and I have a cold sore coming...just what I need! At least it’s not the virus though.
After the usual virtual SLT meeting first thing I got on with organising and sorting stuff for the next weeks. Planning on shutting our building sometime next week...all but one of the others is already closed up. Still can’t quite believe this...it’s surreal. What will work life, let alone the rest of life be like without everyday real contact? Will video links start to feel normal? How will we all establish some sort of routine in a vacuum? We’re so busy thinking about the practicalities of going online, sorting out staff and students and getting things set up that we’re not yet thinking about people actually getting ill....many of the people I’m currently working with are likely to absent soon and things will change yet again.
Really beautiful sunny day though, and quite warm in the office. Did a bit of shopping on the way home and bought some ice creams then headed towards Arthur’s Seat eating my magnum.
There’s a new sturdy path being built and the blocks being used are huge....someone’s doing a good job and it will last ages.
Home to hear about cafes, restaurants and pubs etc all being closed. Good grief. Long chat with T....his job is ok but all the temporary staff will be laid off this weekend. He’s mainly worried about the long term economic impact and I can see why. The government are putting billions in to try and shore up all the companies going into free fall.
Real sense of living through history in the making....that sounds so dramatic but we’ll never forget this.
Surreal still in the evening watching TV...news and topical comedy stuff full of nothing else but talk of the virus, but starkly clear that other programmes like dramas, documentaries, adverts and quiz shows that were recorded earlier portray a world I almost don’t recognise any more...where people go to restaurants and cinemas and worry about things other than the virus.
Thank goodness I still have my knitting!
