The Kiltwalk

My Luve is like a Red Red Rosé

Happy Burns Day to all Kiltwalkers and Blipfoto people looking in. Yes for those of you who may not know today, 25th January is Burns Day.

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 - 21 July 1796) or Rabbie to his friends is arguably Scotland's favourite son and the Bard of Ayrshire and Scotland. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is in English with a light Scots dialect. He was not only known for his political and civil commentary, but is also is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement, yes can you believe it, a West of Scotland man and romance mentioned in the same breath :-)

After his death he became a great source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism, and a cultural icon in Scotland and among the Scottish Diaspora around the world.

So today The Kiltwalk will join many Scot's around the globe in taking part in the traditional Burns Supper, an institution of Scottish life and a night to celebrate the life and works of the national Bard.

However tonight we're not only celebrating the works of Rabbie as we are also celebrating the success of The Kiltwalk in out first year as a Charity. It'll be a fun but emotional evening as we present cheques to the charities and tell the stories of some of our Kiltwalkers - teams that have raised £000s in memory of their children, or in support of the charities that have cared for and saved them.

Today's picture is of Caitlyn McManus who as you can see is looking resplendent in her Kiltwalk T-Shirt and Kilt. Caitlyn is like many school children who will have been asked to wear something "Tartan" to school to celebrate Burns Days and as you can see she is proudly wearing the outfit she will be wearing when she takes part in her first Kiltwalk in April. Don't forget Caitlyn, it's a great chance to get your teachers to sponsor you :-)

I's like to finish today's Blipfoto with one of my favourite Rabbie Burns poems which is dedicated to my Mum, Margaret and my Mother in Law Bunty who we sadly lost in 2012.

My Luve is like a Red Red Rose

O my Luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June:
O my Luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry , my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve !
And fare-thee-weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' 'twere ten thousand mile!
