An ordinary life....

Spring Equinox...

Spring Equinox today.  A day and night of equal length, marking the start of spring, with this Spring Equinox being the day this country officially closed down as a result of the Coronavirus.

A day when we put all our trust in the Key Workers who will make sure we are safe, looked after, food on our table, rubbish lifted from our door and most importantly, care for us if we get ill from this damned germ.

Key workers who, a few short weeks ago were being described  by certain quarters as unskilled, and if from abroad, made to feel unwelcome here.   Funny how things turn out.

David was back at the health centre today to get his sore foot dressed by the nurse.  As he's not able to walk any distance without pain (and he's supposed to rest it and sit with his leg elevated) we decided that Lola should go and stay with R for the weekend.  She was booked in anyway as we were supposed to be away, but oh my, the house feels so empty without her.  I keep thinking I can hear her, and miss her wet nose nudging me for cuddles.  The only consolation is she will have a fantastic time and probably won't miss us at all.  Can't wait for Monday though.

Tesco delivery arrived this morning and they did well.  Ten substitutions, all of them acceptable, and four items unable to deliver - fresh tomatoes, stock cubes, loo roll and a Maltesers Easter egg.  We'll survive.

Spent the afternoon making birthday cards for the upcoming April birthdays.  Also made a card for our favourite local deli as like all restaurants, they will close from tonight.  They are doing takeaway though so we bought dinner from there, and when Frank (the manager) delivered our order (left on porch wall) he picked up the card and chocolates we'd left there, and waved through the door at us with tears in his eyes.  I feel so sorry for all these small businesses who have worked so hard to build their reputation.  I really hope they will survive.  I wrote in the card that when all this is over and there's a stampede to get a table, consider our card as a reservation request.  Want to support them as much as we can.

I also spent a relaxing hour photographing some crocuses from the garden.  The weather forecast for the weekend is favourable so, if David's foot is up for it, we might try and get the Gin Palace summer ready.

So, today is Spring Equinox.  Autumnal Equinox occurs on 22nd September at 1.30pm.  I wonder what will be happening in the world then?  And how long David's hair will be :-)))
