Mothering Sunday
A very difficult day for many, the Prime minister urged us not to go see elderly mothers for Mothering Sunday but to rather Skype or phone. It is a sign of the increasing concern about the spreading effects of the Coronavirus, with the government trying really hard to encourage social distancing and self isolation for the vulnerable. But of course the world is full of stupid people, those who do not pay any heed to this advice - many see this time off work and off school as an extended holiday and are crowding certain beautiful areas of the UK putting pressure on services there, treating this very casually and travelling all over the country - see this message from another blipper, Lydia. I fail to see why people don't understand what social distancing actually means. People think visiting elderly family is necessary when in fact it is only putting them at risk - it is a tricky one as we naturally worry about elderly family members and want to see them.
Enough of a rant - we are taking social distancing seriously and wish others would too. Going out to buy groceries is risky enough, but I really don't think healthy people not at risk should be taking up delivery slots from supermarkets, rather keep them for those who are at risk or live too far away from a supermarket.
I really need a hairdresser appointment but think it is too risky. If they are wearing masks and gloves and hand sanitiser is being used, is it still risky? As desperate as I am to go I think it probably is too risky and not what would be considered necessary outing in terms of social distancing.
We had a lovely walk with Xena this morning, well away from other people. Then as our lunch booking for Mothering Sunday was cancelled Gavin made lunch at home. He does not usually cook and is not an accomplished cook but he made a superb lunch - look at the extra - I gave him the menu and he did very well - chicken breasts stuffed with (lactose free) feta and wrapped in bacon with a mushroom sauce, asparagus, spinach and rice - as no potatoes available. It was all very delicious.
Of course the annual Mothering Sunday with the boys - and Xena! Thomas is still away at his friend's house, I did not want him travelling back for lunch so he will stay there this week and therefore is not in the photo.
