Tam O'Shanter..The doubling storm roars..
In Stirling this afternoon it was cold, windy, snowy. Just setting the right tone for today's Blip. You can see the snow falling, and almost feel the chill wind in my photo.
This statue of Robert Burns stands in the heart of Stirling. It was funded by Provost David Bayne and commissioned from sculptor Albert Hemstock Hodge. It is composed of a bronze figure on a granite plinth, with bronze plaques illustrating The Vision, The Cottar's Saturday Night, Tam O'Shanter and Burns at the plough, round the base.
The bronze plaque to the left is the one representing Tam O'Shanter. Full of witches, skulls and Auld Nick himself. The remarkable tale penned by Burns cannot satisfactorily be explained in a few sentences. It needs to be heard, and so relax, have a dram, close your eyes - it's me performing Tam O'Shanter.
