The Gazweasel Times

Friday bottom #30

This is Apollo. I think it's quite a cheeky little bottom, just appearing from beneath his classical costume. However, don't be fooled. The statue is not cheeky at all.

It depicts Apollo flaying Marsyas. This came about because Marsyas, stupidly, challenged Apollo to a music competition. He lost. I reckon having your skin removed is a bit harsh for a few bum notes.

This version of the playful little myth, was carved beautifully by Antonio Corradini in about 1720.
