Mollyblobs
This is just one of several traditional names for Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris). Others include Kingcup, Mayflower, May-blobs, water-blobs and Gallins.
This is one of our most ancient native plants probably surviving the glaciations. Sadly the loss of so many of our wetlands and water meadows has led to its decline.
This one is by the pond in our garden. This is the first of its flowers to open. I may blip it again when it is at its best.
I must give some acknowledgement for some of the botanical information I use in these blips. Some of it comes from a wonderful book called Flora Britannica by Richard Mabey. It is a treasure.
