Home grown
Home grown but not by me. This enormous strawberry was grown just 50 miles North of here in Angus. It was beautifully flavoured and perfectly ripe. Presumably it was grown in a poly tunnel, but even so, for Scottish soft fruit to be available in March seems extraordinary. I saw appeals for pickers on TV this week, they reckon that they can be kept safe by only one or two people per tunnel.... I do hope they manage to find some way of harvesting the crop.
What yucky weather today, drizzle most of the day and then a heavy mist came down this evening. Luckily I hadn't planned to be in the garden today anyway.
I had my first experience of an online Zoom Board meeting this morning. New technology for me but it went remarkably well. Challenging times ahead for those caring for vulnerable people with and those with additional support needs. The larger well known groups seem to have supplies of personal protection equipment available while some of the smaller groups seem to be slipping through the net.
I had news today of the death of a friend's mum, the third person I know who has died in less than a week and none have anything to do with the virus. A difficult time, another friend was attending an online funeral this afternoon.
This afternoon we decided to sort out the freezer and find out what we actually have in there.... apart from an awful lot of chicken pieces spread throughout the different drawers ... we're pretty well stocked it tends out and this is a good chance to actually use the freezer properly and eat our way through some of it. I think I have a assertive mentality, always dragging running out of things. I have had a habit in the past of buying cheese and butter and freezing them which will stand us in good stead. Lots of stewed apples from last years crop too which we can start making our way through. At least it is all well organised now and we can find things when we want them.
Today's nice thing was talking to the granddaughters on WhatsApp as they got ready for bed. Both full of beans, a real tonic.
Keep well and safe everybody.
