Packhorse Bridge
Today I was walking along the Hogsmill
River. I found out it's played an important role in the history of Ewell. It has been the source of power for a number of mills, including gunpowder. This Grade II Listed Packhorse Bridge was named after the mules that regularly transported the gunpowder. Ewell gunpowder is said to have been used in The American Civil War.
John Millais' Ophelia was painted along the banks of the Hogsmill.
I continue to be amazed at all the local history I'm learning as a result of Blipping. I'm sure there's scope for a lot more over the coming months!
