Wooler Water

Sunday, and another day of mostly pottering. Though I did have an online 'chat' with a nice man from the bank, who is arranging to send me a contactless debit card. Never felt the need for one before, but suddenly it seems a good idea to avoid touching keypads on card terminals.

MrM and I walked down to the Wooler Water for a little bit of exercise late this afternoon. It was bitterly cold, but slightly less so than this morning, when it tried to snow for a while! Not difficult to keep our distance from others as there was no-one else around, apart from a dog walker on the other side of the green by the sealed-off playpark.

After not quite a week under lockdown, felt quite despondent this morning. Partly because it's beginning to sink in that it may be an awful long time before I'll be able to be with Tom and Lucy, my grown up offspring, again (and I guess huge numbers of people are in the same situation). They're 150 miles away and, though we don't meet up that often, until now there's always been the option to jump on a train to visit each other. Was cheered this evening to have a long chat on the phone with Tom, who lives on his own. It's his birthday, and he seemed to be in reasonably good spirits and had cooked himself a birthday meal. Happy Birthday Tom!

To quote Haldir of Lorien, in Lord of the Rings -
The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but there is still much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.
