Bee on the Box

Today's the day …………………….. for a sweet scent

If this plant had not already been here in the garden, we would certainly have had to introduce it.

It's a Sarcococca confusa , commonly known as the 'sweet box' and it's a bushy evergreen shrub with glossy, deep green leaves.  At the end of winter it produces small inconspicuous, creamy-white flowers which are followed by glossy black berries.  But it's the small flowers that have the most wonderful scent. If there's not too much wind and you're sitting anywhere near them, the air is full of a fragrant perfume that makes you feel quite light-headed. 

This bee was a bit dozy-looking - I reckon it felt the same way ………………
