Where I live
Today started at 0002, when the Tesco website said I was in a queue to book an online delivery. The page would be automatically refreshed. At 0020 the message came to say that all the slots were full. Sigh.
May not try again tonight.
I decided to walk east today and to go to Heavenfield. This is the end of St Oswald's Way, a long distance path of 97 miles from Holy Island to St. Oswald's Church. Heavenfield is said to be the site of a significant battle in AD 634 when Oswald and his Scottish supporters were triumphant over the Welsh, led by Cadwallon.
I took the route along the bank of the river North Tyne and then from West Cocklaw Farm, which involved a long slog uphill. In the past I think I have always walked (or slid) down this hill. It was most of the 850 feet of ascent in my 7.5 mile walk. (It seemed a lot further.) In fairness, it was very windy and Arth doesn't like hills, but I need to get fitter!
This is the view of Humshaugh village taken from about half way up that hill. You can see a lot of new houses in nearest part of the village. I can see my house - it is bang central - but I didn't like to mark it with an arrow!!
My walk continued on Fallowfield Fell and down to Wall village. I texted Mum to phone Jenny and Dennis to tell them I would pass their house. They came to the door and we chatted across their front garden. It was lovely to see them. They are keen walkers and are going up onto the Fell most days.
It's a bit of a boring 2 miles from their house to mine, but I made it and enjoyed a cuppa and a rest.
Tonight we saw the final of Only Connect. That was a tough one. University Challenge followed. I did better with my answers in UC than OC ('nuff said)!
