Double trouble....
It must be Sunday. First job was to calve a cow that had had a prolapse a couple of weeks ago. The vet had put everything back in and stitched her up. I had to unstitch her then pull out the dead calf. By the look and smell of it it must have been dead a couple of days. Gave her a big jag of antibiotics and we shall see if she survives.
Next, went to feed the spring calving cows and M23 had calved- a set of twins.
So had to come back in , build up a pen in the shed, get Kev, the bike and trailer and bring her in. She followed OK but once she was in the shed the hormones well and truly kicked in. She’s not a happy cow in the pen, a tad over protective if you go any where near. So hopefully the calves will manage to suck on their own ! If not it might not be Corona virus that sees me off .
Spent the rest of the day spreading more nitrogen fertiliser on grass. By tonight I had done another 60 acres. Littlemiss came with me to open the gates which was a good help.
