Gorse

A strange day! We slept in, had brunch, and MrM decided to take the day off.

Our walk this afternoon again took us past Kettles Fort and up through the far end of the woods. Towards the top of the track, we stopped briefly to admire this view of Hedgehope Hill (to the left) and the Cheviot (to the right). Close up the gorse flowers smelled wonderful, but it was too chilly for their coconut-y aroma to fill the air. A short way away, further into the woods, we stopped for a while and sat on a grassy knoll, hoping to see some wildlife - MrM has seen red squirrels and hares there previously. There was none and, maybe more importantly, there was no mobile signal, no internet, no radio, no TV - good to get away from grim reality for a short time. It was strangely quiet (apart from hundreds of pigeons in the trees, cooing and flapping around), and it was easy to imagine that we were the only  two people on the planet! No idea how long we sat, just looking and listening - 10 minutes, 20 perhaps, maybe even longer - before continuing our walk over to the Common. The car park is closed, and it was deserted. Once beyond the streets of the town we saw very few people, mostly dog walkers.

An evening in front of the TV - another episode of Tabula Rasa (we're hooked) and Freud (ditto).

Lockdown, day 8
