Grefriars Bobby

I was the only person on the street outside Greyfriars church today, so I took this picture of the Greyfriars Bobby statue. You usually can't get near it for tourists hustling for a picture. I've never understood why there is a compulsion for everyone to touch the nose.  That was never the case in times gone by.  I remember folks taking pictures ( with film) but few if any touched the statue....it was sufficient to simply look.  Now his nose is all shiney which I think is a shame.  But there is some respite in these changed times, courtesy of covid 19.
As a local shopkeeper quipped.... "they'll no be touchin' his nose noo"
