The Roman Field
Groundhog Day10 of COVID-19 UK lockdown.
We went for a walk from our house to Lower Machen where we walked along the edge of a rapeseed field beloning to farmer friend Brian. Over the last 25 years I've found many roman coins, brooches, and samian ware pottery from one of the largest lead mining spots in the Roman Empire.
The blipfoto shows the field with 12th century church of St Michael & All Angels on which the roman one is believed to have been, and indeed some of the roman stone was used to build it. Early recycling.
The house above it belongs to another good friend and his wife, and has amazing views of the Bristol Channel.
