Hope

Joined the street applause this evening. Heard a couple of bagpipers in the next street.

A few houses down from up the pavement is covered in coloured chalk for hopscotch. The pavement on the other side of the street is similarly chalked. Some of the children from different families play together but apart.

On the road where the cars are parked I saw the word Hope written.

I did a weekly shop for ourselves and a self-isolating neighbour who got back from Northern Italy the other week. No signs so far of symptoms. Footprints on the floor had appeared outside Sainsbury’s to keep shoppers apart. And, as the extra shows, in the store itself. Numbers are limited but I was surprised to have the main aisle all to myself for a brief moment,

Everyone respecting distance. There is hope.
