Tobermory

Tobermory is the main town on the Isle of Mull. It is located at the north eastern end of the island. The town was founded as a fishing port in 1788 and the layout is based on the designs of engineer, Thomas Telford.

The name Tobermory is derived from the Gaelic Tobar Mhoire - meaning Mary's Well and refers to a nearby well dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Many of the buildings are painted in bright colours and became the location for the children's programme Balamory.

A wide variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, hotels and guest houses can be found as well as the distillery, Marine Visitor Centre, An Tobar Arts Centre plus heaps more.
