Worse before it's better?

Some time ago, we fell in love with "Betula pendula 'Youngii"    
Had it cost us the  figure(s) seen here 
"RRP £49.99 £39.99  inc. VAT Save £10" I'm sure we'd NOT have bought it.
Not long thereafter, it found its way into a bigger Pot.

I, finally, decided to let it loose thus and replace it by the weeping, more dwarf form of Cercidiphyllum which I polluted  to become:-
Sir Sid O'Fillum".
There's been a massive "hackbackery" of Jasminum nudiflorum plus a raking of Shillies (Gravel) to remove the Speedwell.
