Five miles in the woods
I drove back to the national forest where Jerry and I went fishing last week to hike on a section of the Palmetto Trail. My cousin D and I decided we had both had 17 days of staying at home except for trips to the grocery store once a week so she went with me. It was good to see another person and get a hug. We both live in a rural area that we felt we had done all we could to keep ourselves safe. We still plan to practice the stay at home as far as going out among people but we plan to do another hike somewhere remote next week. It was really a great stress reliever. We saw one other person as we were leaving the trail.
This section of the trail had so many dogwood trees blooming! Not many wildflowers except for some violets and ragwort. We had to cross over a bridge over the Enoree River that had steps leading up to it (see the extra) and then we walked to the second bridge over a creek where we had our lunch before making the trek back to the car which is the main photo. The weather was perfect! A little chilly when we started but I was glad to be wearing my shorts and sleeveless shirt by the time we got back to the car.
The most unusual thing we saw was a green tree frog sleeping in the middle of the trail. (see extra) First we thought he was dead but he did move a little when I poked him with a leaf. After I got the photo we covered him with leaves to keep the hot sun off him. Hope he makes his way somewhere safe.
In South Carolina as of today we have 1700 confirmed cases of the virus and 34 deaths. In my home county there are 78 positive cases. We are not on a lockdown type situation yet. Hoping in our case with the minimal number of cases we will start to turn a corner after this next week.
Thankful I don't live in a highly populated area.
Be well, blippers.
