Abi (and steam trains)

One thing that the Minx and Abi have in common is that on first meeting them you'd think they were gregarious characters: both are fun and entertaining in a crowd, just the sort of people you'd want at any gathering. Yet both of them have a solitary side and sometimes seem happiest in their own company.

Thus, even though we always invite her along, Abi prefers to go for a walk on her own each day rather than coming out with me and Dan. And that's fine, of course, but it was a lovely surprise when she said she'd come along with us this afternoon.

We walked down to Devil's Bridge and then up and around Casterton, with a brief stop to look at the old train line. It must have been so lovely when steam trains used to make their way up and down the valley. To think that I could have sat in bed of a morning and watched the white plume's progress and listened to the wonderful noise echoing off the hills.
