After yesterday's run today was all about the walk. It was foggy this morning and got more so the more we walked up into the hills. It made everything seem austerely beautiful. I love the way fog envelopes the landscape, the way it compresses distances and features. The other thing we noticed on our walk was how quiet it was, we were often only accompanied by birdsong and our own breath in the cold air.
The lack of car noise and of planes flying overhead meant that we could appreciate the beauty of all the birds dipping and soaring in the gun metal sky before they were swallowed by the fog. The bird in today's main image took up a fleeting residence on a post in the field beyond the wall and I really liked it's soot, sharp blackness against that soft blank sky.
Just as we got back the sun popped out and it's now a glorious early spring day but I wouldn't have missed my walk in the fog for anything.
The extra is called "Tree Lines".
