Faded glory

I photographed the grille of my 1981 Mercedes 280CE Coupé last night in the evening sun as I think it’s rather splendid.

From an era when these cars were engineered to be the best ‘at any cost’ and before the accountants took over, the W123 series of cars, as they are known, are the last of the best.

The famous logo dates back to the 1920s and represents the coming together of Daimler Mercedes (pronged star) and Benz (laurel wreath).

Mercedes was the daughter of an entrepreneur working with Daimler who named the cars after her.
