Bamboo Mask

Another inside photo shoot with some friends today. Antique electronics, antique gardening equipment, and oodles of tropical plants.

My interest was captured by this tribal mask carved from the sett (vegetative base) of a very large bamboo species. The right-hand side of the image is a reflection in a mirror of the back of the mask, showing the internal anatomy of the bamboo shoot. The beard is roots.

Two off camera flashes were used to light the mask. The left-hand flash had a blue gel overlay, the right-hand flash had a red gel overlay. Adds a little interest to an otherwise brown/beige mask that I would have likely posted as B&W otherwise.
