Day 20- Sir Edwin Chadwick

Quite pertinent for these times......he was noted for his leadership in reforming the Poor Laws in England and instituting major reforms in urban sanitation and public health. There was a serious outbreak of typhus in 1838 and after this he persuaded doctors to look at the conditions which might contribute to ill health in the population, particularly the poor. Chadwick helped implement a system so that every house had a water supply rather than supplies from stand pipes and better drainage and sewage system to remove waste.
