Death on the Web
Nature, enacting one of it's little Epic Dramas in the garden today.
The recent heat and rain have brought in the flies. Hundreds of millions of them. So a feast for any spider waiting to pounce. This one got more than he (she?) bargained for when a beetle blundered into the web.
The beetle was large and powerful, and for a few minutes it looked as if it would not only escape, but also destroy most of the spider's web as well. It put up a valiant struggle.
Alas for our beetley friend, it was not to be. In a surprisingly short time the spider killed and wrapped it's meal, orbiting around and around in quite a frenzy
