General Post Office, Dublin
This was the scene of the 1916 Easter Rising, during which members of the Irish Volunteers seized various locations in Dublin and declared the Irish Republic independent of Britain.
It is a beautiful building which has been heavily restored since the uprising, but it is still possible to see bullet holes and damage on the outside walls and pillars. It still functions as a Post Office today, but there is a small, very interesting museum inside dedicated to the rebellion - definitely recommended if you are visiting the city!
