The Glenelg Marina

The correct name for this wonderful marina is the Holdfast Shores Marina. Seen even whiter in large.
Holdfast Bay is simply another name for the Glenelg area, Adelaide's most popular beach suburb.

After enjoying lunch today at the nearby Stamford Grand Hotel to celebrate my daughter's 34th birthday, we then enjoyed a stroll on the beach and then along the Holdfast Shores Marina Promenade where this photo was taken.

It is our smaller version of the Monaco Port Hercules Marina in the South of France! And a lot less expensive too. This whole precinct was built between 1997 and 2007 with the Marina completed around the year 2000 as far as we can recall.

It was part of a $600 million Holdfast Shores multi-project development, consisting of several separate components from a fully integrated mix of high-quality residential, recreational, commercial and tourism facilities.

There are 209 luxury apartments and penthouses within 3 separate buildings, residential parking facilities, 59 freehold marina berths and 35 commercial tenancies (predominantly restaurants), all with open outdoor dining areas overlooking the new Holdfast Shores Marina.

The actual Glenelg sandy beach is directly behind me as I took this photo. This is the beach with its wonderful clean, flat sand that I used to regularly jog on in my youthful squash competition days. About a mile away are the brutal West Beach sand hills that our coach used to make us run up and down till we dropped.

I digress slightly, so here is a small slice of life in Adelaide as enjoyed by the lucky ones who have homes and apartments (and boats) in this beautiful marina.
