Happy birthday William
Hildasrose has been taking part in writing a poem a day and I decided I didn't feel like it
However I took this photo through a shop window. The poem (such as it is) should explain.
Happy birthday, William
This should have been your week.
I planted daffodils before your house
Now they bloom behind locked gates.
Happy birthday William
Two hundred and fifty years ago.
Saturday was Daffodil Day but
Shops are closed and streets empty
Specially commissioned daffodils
Were to be ordered to honour you.
Too late now the day is gone.
Your birthplace meant to honour you.
Now we have to look after ourselves
Better luck next year, William!
