Icy Arran in Cloud
The peaks of Arran around the Glen Sannox area are about 15 miles away from this spot looking over the fields near West Kilbride and the start of Goldenberry Hill. A problem with digital photography is that the electronic sensor is not as good at coping with extremes of shade and light, nor sometimes the subtle gradations within a shade (what photographers call "latitude) compared with film. By setting my Nikon D300s to shoot in RAW, it allowed me to use computer software to isolate the Arran Hills from the clouds to get an image which was more representative of what I actually saw. They were barely visible in the original straight-from-camera picture
