EveryDay Ideas - 42 Moon Thinking

A Super Moon, albeit a rather clumsy picture - which prompts me to understand the functionality of my camera more fully.

The Idea (after a rather barren patch of thinking in splendid isolation and lockdown) for today. In July 1969, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon after a very rapid set of technological developments and  innovation programmes to develop the Apollo rocket delivery systems and moon landers. The famous quote (although a subject of debate and dispute) was:

“That's one small step for (a) man. One giant leap for mankind.”

Perhaps, today's pandemic experience might be a similar moment when we reflect and take a look back at history. It represents a serious and vital challenge for humanity and its future survival. Our challenge (for every human on the planet no matter who or where they are) is to ensure we learn every lesson we can from the current SARS Covid-19 pandemic, and how we might prepare and deal with these events both now and in the future. We have been caught severely with our 'pants down' , totally unprepared and totally let down by our current political, industrial, economic, social and health systems. This represents a collective failure to think systemically and strategically about risk, catastrophe and values. The question is: Do we value wealth over health?

So, this might represent our 'one small step' moment and it could be an opportunity to work together collaboratively and globally. It could represent a giant leap for mankind if we get it right - and ultimately lead to the survival of the human race. Failure is not an option.

As for asteroids - well, we will leave that for another day...
