Joeys

Two years ago fellow blipper W. and I took a month's holiday in Australia. On the 10th April we visited the Kangaroo sanctuary in Alice Springs. I had wanted to do it ever since I saw the Kangaroo Dundee documentaries on the BBC. Chris 'Brolga' Barns started and developed the sanctuary for orphaned Joeys. He welcomes small groups of visitors on evening tours around the sanctuary. We went out into the 'bush' and saw many kangaroos both old and young and Brolga told us about their sad start in life but how they thrive now at the sanctuary. Everyone had the chance to hold a Joey for a while. It was a truly wonderful experience and one we'd like to repeat. By the way, Brolga told us he gained his nickname of the Australian bird due to him being very tall and thin!
