Snake's Head Fritillary

A long time favourite of mine, I have been looking for these for days. I couldn't quite remember their exact location and was hoping they hadn't been crowded out by the ever-spreading bluebells. Then suddenly today I spotted them, fully grown and flowering. How did that happen?

I'm sure there were purple chequered ones last year, so I will continue to watch the bank, and hopefully they will appear soon.
