Winter sunshine!

Winter sunshine? But this is a pair of socks! Yes, but they are called 'Winter sunshine' by the lovely lady who knitted them.

She lives on Papa Westray and runs the tiny post office there, spending every spare moment hand-knitting the most beautiful socks, each pair in colours that reflect the light and landscapes of her island home.

It was the rich vibrant colours that drew me to these, and they are so warm and cosy... I have another pair, 'Early Spring', which also perfectly capture the season. R has a mottled blue-grey-green pair called 'Rainy day' socks (he wears them on sunny days too), and his sister has 'Summer sea'... in rich and luxurious blues.

There is a big map of the world on the wall in the post office, and everyone who buys a pair of her socks puts a pin on the map where they live. So she can see where her socks are going, what a lovely thought!
