Jump starting my car

My car has had a flat battery for a few weeks after I didn't drive it enough. I failed to get it started by bumping it a few weeks ago. I ordered some jump leads so today was the day to try them out

J and I know nothing about cars and we had never jump started a car. After watching many youtube videos we tried our luck. We weren't sure if the jump leads were connected to the right parts on J's car as it wasn't as obvious as my car. Amazingly though, and to my surprise, my car spurted into life on the first attempt.
