Helleborus foetidus

Far too cold and wet to go far from home today so it was wellies on and out to the garden/swamp with the camera.

Helleborus foetidus, which is more commonly known as stinking hellebore is starting to come out as it always does, well ahead of practically everything else. It flowers early and at the moment is just about the only green thing in the garden.

For this picture I had to get down low in the wet, but did so by getting some cardboard from a box in the garage and kneeling on that. I really like the fact that many of the details of the flower have come out, but my favourite part of this picture are the drops of water that are sitting on the top of the flower, held in place by the water's surface tension.
