Happy Easter
The goldfinches are well underway with their spring molt, turning into bright yellow blasts of happiness. This male is almost fully molted, and looking rather fabulous. As you can see, I'm taking full advantage of the cherry trees even though they are slightly past their peak bloom. In another week, they'll be all leafed out with nary a bloom in sight.
The weather has been really lovely today so I spent quite a bit of time outside, some in the yard and some in the hide.
Last evening I happened to look out and spotted a pair of Eastern Bluebirds going in and out of the nest box in the garden next to the patio. I was over the moon, as you can imagine. This morning, they were back, with several other visits throughout the day. The woodpeckers had used that box to roost in during the winter so the bottom was all filled with wood shavings which the male bluebird was carefully removing. So, I waited until the bluebirds had left and then carefully cleaned all the shavings out of the box, hoping to make it impossible to resist. Fingers crossed. A shot of Papa in Extra.
We talked with my parents this morning and then had a zoom call with Hubs' mom. It is very hard not being able to see them in person right now, but we must all be careful.
As I usually do now, I listened to Governor Cuomo's daily briefing. It really does seem that NY is starting to flatten the curve as it relates to hospitalizations; but the number of daily deaths is just wrenching.
Please stay safe, stay home, be kind...
