Memorial After Cat
Back yards like this one are in short supply these days, what with the proliferation of multi-storied apartments constructed in neighborhoods throughout the city.
All the more reason to let the grass grow.
As Kendall and I created our Mandala this morning I came across delicate, tiny, perfect fledgling bird feathers strewn among grass and dandelion, indicative of a neighborhood cat visit. The Western Scrub Jay parents were upset, squawking, flying about the yard…searching… pausing in the Ginko, dropping to the ground to look about. My bamboo structure turned into a memorial. The little container is what remains of a pottery rattle I made years ago, lost in the garden: now a holder for downy baby bird feathers, soft and silent.
How all is transformed.
