Ubiquitous brown sticky things

Various members of the household complained yesterday of brown sticky things sticking to their feet or footwear. I found one on my sandals and realised it was a horse chestnut bud scale. As one has to walk under a couple of horse chestnut trees to get out of the garden into the park it's no wonder we were picking them up.
