“Space is not out there, it is within us”
A photograph of connections....
My eldest daughter, a gallery curator, stands in front of a beautiful artwork by Katie Paterson called ‘Totality’... a mirror ball of many thousands of tiny silvered images capturing solar eclipses, both ancient and modern, now projecting a galaxy of reflected light into the void enclosing the piece.
Molly is wearing spectacles engraved with Paterson’s phrase ‘A place that only exists in moonlight’ referring to another of this renowned artist’s astrophysical passions.
The glasses are from a series created by another artist, my ex-tutor and great friend Mike Gittoes, each pair carrying a quotation chosen to reflect the passions of the wearer.
Note to avoid confusion: This is a backblip, using an image made pre-virus, recording intriguing conversations enjoyed on the day in question, despite our distancing.
