Bucking Bronco
We had a fantastic time at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo yesterday. I shot 339 pictures so it was difficult to pick the blip, but I think this image of the Bareback Bronc Riding event captures the essence of the rodeo. It was two hours of wild ridin', calf ropin', and buckin' action complete with a live orchestra!
I have to admit though, the shot of Whiplash the monkey, dressed in his chaps, cowboy hat and boots, riding a border collie and herding sheep into a pen was a close second for my blip shot. Haha! That was some talented monkey!
No seriously, the runner up shot was of all the contestants riding into the arena on horseback during the Grand Entry. It started out with a young girl on a beautiful horse carrying the US Flag followed by every contestant and helper of the event. There had to be at least seventy five horses out there in the arena during this event!
The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has been held in Fort Worth for 117 years, since 1896! It is a legendary indoor Pro Rodeo event that lasted this year for two hours. The events were: The Grand Entry, Bareback Bronc Riding, Calf Scramble, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-down Roping, Championship Barrel Racing, Whiplash, Chuck Wagon Races, and the infamous Bull Riding. They saved the Bull Riding event for last because it is the wildest event of them all!
The theme of this year's rodeo was "Bring It"! And they did!!!
