James Street
Part of the route for my daily exercise - or at least one of the routes.
Some jolly music today en route by Half Man Half Biscuit, as I listened to their 2008 album CSI:Ambleside for the first time. My favourite track was King of Hi-vis.
I have reached Rembrandt in my daily progress through art history. His work from 1632 The Anatomy Lesson of Dr, Tulp is a remarkable early painting, completed when Rembrandt was only 25. The group gathered round the corpse of a criminal look like real people - not the idealised types of earlier generations. He painted this from separate studies of live (and deceased) models and assembled the group, in a very dynamic composition. The figures on the far left and top of the group seem to have been added later than the others.
The lesson would have been taking park in a wooden theatre - circular or semi-circular, rather like one I photographed in Bologna a few years ago.
