Cricket

We went up to the allotment today, mostly in order to refill the bird feeders (they're very insistent). We cleared a few more little patches of ground and I extracted the last Jerusalem artichokes - a very poor crop this year. How can that be? JAs are supposed to be survivors after the end times, like cockroaches and woodlice surely? Maybe ours have become exhausted by being cloned for about 15 years. Time to lash out another £1 or so for some fresh ones from Tattie Shaws.......

On our way to the allotment, I noticed some chaps heading across the Links as if to....play some football, perhaps? No, viewed large you will see that they were carrying cricket bats. Leith Franklin Academical is a venerable institution, more ancient than any of the football clubs in Edinburgh (the very green building on the left is a bit of its clubhouse). And when we were on our way home, they were indeed practising their cricket, even though the temperature was only about +2 degrees Celsius with a biting wind and a modicum of sleet.

Scotland the brave, eh what?

Edit: later on we went to a singing session in a nearby pub at the invitation of splendid new blipper BonsaiMistress - what larks!
