We love a bonfire!

After our walk this evening Mike lit a bonfire, in our wonderful fire basket. He's been doing a lot of woodworking recently so there were plenty of offcuts and bits to burn.

There was lots of cardboard and paper too as, now that there are no recycling collections and the tip is closed, we have amassed quite a lot of paper and cardboard.  I shred some of the paper for bedding for the hens, but there is still plenty to burn. 

Lovely to sit there and watch the flames, to feel the heat and smell the wood smoke. The prunings off the sycamore tree added to it! 

Mike's did the messages run for the village today, and when he was in the shop they took him up on his offer to deliver shopping throughout the island.  Once you've been a postie, you never lose the knack!
