At some time almost everyone has taken a pic and been disappointed. 
Often thats because you have been attracted to something in the scene that when photographed seems to be lost. 
When this happens just ask yourself this question.....
“What “exactly” attracted  me to this scene” and photograph THAT.
The term “Less is More” has been around for yonks in photography but have a peek at the extra and you will see exactly what I mean.
It also applies to small stuffed dogs. Less is more...Right?
