Supporting the NHS
I thought you’d like to see what my sister has been knitting to support the NHS. I know there’s several knitters out there, so here's a link if you’re interested https://knittingbypost.com/knitting-pattern/the-lifesaver-knitting-pattern/ . She’s also knitted 50 face mask adaptors so far for use by nurses who have found masks with elastic around the ears uncomfortable. My friends have been donating material for people who are making scrubs for use by carers and scrub bags. I do love this army of people who are all doing their bit to help. I thoroughly enjoying watching the free streaming of Phantom of the Opera yesterday – brilliant! I heard today that my nephew and his wife have symptoms consistent with CV, worrying news.
Day 34 / Day 26 of Lockdown (for my record only)
UK deaths up 888 to 15,464 (on graphs, there are now 2 UK lines, one with these hospital deaths and one with a time lagged total deaths number), Italy up 482 to 23,227, Spain up 565 to 20,043. Some doctors in Japan warn of rising cases leading to a possible collapse of the health system. It is now thought that half the world’s population are subject to restrictions.
The lack of PPE and gowns in particular is causing anger, with calls for the Health Secretary to resign. Councils have seen a large increase in costs and a big drop in revenue and as a result the government has given them an extra £1.6bn in funding. Extra funding has also been given to UK Nations. The government has told councils to keep parks and cemeteries open. Data is to be collected on the ethnicity of those dying from CV amid concerns of a disproportionate number of BAME people.
