Swedish Neon Dreams

Further to my previous musings on neon, here's one of my favourite little buildings in Uppsala - the art-deco cinema turned youth centre called Grand. Run by Uppsala Commune, its stated aim is to be a place for young people to "mess around, host events, see concerts or just to chat over coffee." Noble aims, although I like it better for its premises, which are Golden Age of Hollywood by way of Swedish cosiness. On cold nights such of these, doesn't it look welcoming?

P.S. If any passing hipsters are considering starting a naff minimal synth band, I have already trademarked the title of this post. Luckily for you, I've worked out a simple formula for tedious band names. It works like this.

(obscure foreign city) + (retro electrical component) + (Communist organ)

It really works! Try it. "Basel Semiconductor Collective are releasing their first EP next month! Oh, what? You haven't heard of them...?"
