Nautical Twilight

Did you know that there are three types of dawn? Astronomical, Nautical and Civil. You can read about them here if you are interested.

I took this photo at 4.40am, and Nautical Dawn was at 4.18, so this was during the period known as Nautical Twilight. Apparently, during this time, a sailor can recognise the horizon at sea but there is still not enough illumination for outdoor activities. I had to agree, so after this quick photo, I went back to sleep for another couple of hours, when the sun was well and truly above the horizon.

As always, I enjoyed my bivvy. Although Lyrids were few and far between, stars were not. It was wonderful to lie there, just gazing up at all the constellations. Venus was brighter than my neighbour's security light! And when I took this photo, Jupiter and Saturn were both visible even though most of the stars were not. I  was surprised by the number of satellites passing overhead - my brother had sent me some interesting info about the controversial SpaceX satellites launched by Elon Musk. See more here.

Data plan renews tomorrow so I'll be back commenting and replying to all your comments. Thanks for taking the time to  stop by :-)
