Serious Smelling
Today was our sense of smell. We began with different substances in cups with a paper towel over them, with a cutout hole: powdered chocolate, balsamic vinegar, sliced ginger, ground coffee, and ground pepper - which they did pretty well saying what they were. And then we went on our Nature walk, smelling all sorts; the strongest was this wild garlic.
Well, except for the dog poo I got on my hand, shaking out Zion's wellies, not nice. Managed to get it off by rubbing it on a mossy log. I've never been quite sure whether an acute sense of smell is more of a blessing or a curse.
Allegra decided her favourite smell is chocolate; Zion said honey. Don't think I could ever decide what mine is... fresh ground coffee, bread in the oven, rain after drought, the back of my kids' necks when they were little, sheets newly in from the sunshine, orange blossom, garlicky rice, Brazilian maize cuscuz when it's ready, frying bacon, brownies in the oven, lavender rubbed into my palms...
What's yours?
Gratefuls:

- Mike and Sam doing the weekly shop
- Mike beginning to board up the attic, looks good
