Sunbathing ?

I'm not sure what the woodpecker is doing.  I have never seen s/he on the ground before.  I had stopped putting out bird food as there was a rat running between our garden and our neighbours.  It looked as though it was breaking the stems of the daffodils and taking the sap from the leaves. Advice from pest control was to remove food from bird feeders so birds have to go hungry.  I will replenish the feeders when the rat disappears.
